Dance Macabre - Thesis Film
Dance Macabre is my 3rd Year Final Film from my time at Norwich University of the Arts, and showcases my full skillset I developed during my time there. This project helped me develop my skills as a character animator, motion graphics artist, producer, clean-up artist and lighting artist. I hold unlimited levels of pride for this piece and the journey I went through to make it.
My main collaborator for this film was Joe Standen, who assisted with backgrounds, sections of character animation and design.
The film was animated in TVPaint. Cleaned up and coloured in ToonBoom. Edited in Premiere Pro. Rendered in After Effects.
Motion Graphics intro was drawn in Procreate and animated in After Effects.
Dance Macabre follows two heirs from enemy kingdoms who are meant to join their kingdoms together in harmony through their union. However, one heir has much more sinister ideas about how they can end the kingdom's war, taking matters into her own hands.
The film is a reflection on the pressures of relationships and expectations. The battle for balance between personal beliefs and the pressures from others.
The idea, characters and morals of this story are my own creation, and I dedicated so much time to this piece. Getting to work with others on my course to achieve my vision was a pleasure and taught me a lot about my specialism and how to communicate with others clearly.
